Ray Bryant - Take a Bryant Step (1967)

Ray Bryant's cover of Miriam Makeba's 1957 signature hit Pata Pata, released in the US in 1967. On this same year Cadet released the Take a Bryant Step LP consisting of covers and Bryant originals, a joyful affair, mostly targeted for airplay. Ray is backed by the Richard Evans Orchestra. This LP has never made it to CD to my knowledge.

I have this album & can recommend it.

This is a pleasant, upbeat project. Ray Bryant is channeling the spirit of Ramsey Lewis. They recorded at Ter Mar Studios in Chicago with Richard Evans conducting the Argo/Cadet/Chess house band. As was the unfortunate custom of the day, members of the band are unidentified, although the producers had a regular group of on-call musicians (e.g. Phil Upchurch on guitar or electric bass) they used routinely.
